DAMBUSTERSBoffins, Bravery and Bouncing BombsSeventy years on, discover the story behind the famous ‘Dambusters’ raid on Germany in 1943. The Air Force Museum of New Zealand has opened an exciting new exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raid on Germany. This exhibition explores the background, build-up to, and dramatic events of, this famous raid by No. 617 Squadron RAF. Find out what the Squadron achieved after the raid and the stories of the New Zealanders who served with this elite unit during World War Two. Archived film footage, of the people and technology involved in this remarkable attack, is also on display. Stories that were later immortalised in a popular feature film. Part of the exhibition showcases the simple but brilliant scientific devices that were used to drop a spinning cylindrical bomb at a precise height, speed and distance in order to damage the dams. Visitors can have a go at some of these scientific solutions and see just how these devices worked. ______________________________________________________ |
