Waste

Our recent waste audit revealed a whole host of opportunities for us to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. A big thank you to our fantastic staff who went above and beyond the call of duty and volunteered to help with the audit.

Here are some of the recommendations from the waste audit we've implemented so far: increasing the number of recycling bins available for staff, replacing waste bins with paper recycling units at each work station, establishing a Sustainability Team made up of staff from each department, reducing the amount of paper towels going to landfill by replacing them with re-usable cloths, diverting organic waste from landfill into compost, re-cycling and re-using printed paper, re-thinking existing paper use and coming up with re-usable alternatives and monitoring our paper consumption, plus many more!

Water

Our water audit has resulted in a range of new initiatives; a "one sink" policy in our staff rooms, a leak reporting system, water saving features in our new washrooms, timed watering systems in our gardens along with mulching to retain moisture and we are now also monitoring our monthly water usage.

Energy

Our recent energy audit both reflected on the progress we have made since our last audit, such as the introduction of motion sensor lighting, and revealed more opportunities for improvement. We are currently consulting with an Energy Specialist to find out how we can make our display lighting even more efficient as well as undertaking a review of unnecessary appliances, and monitoring monthly power consumption as well as doing simple things like making sure everything is turned off at the end of our working day.
