              Teacher Resource Kits

              These kits have been developed by qualified teachers and give links to the New Zealand curriculum, along with essential skills and learning outcomes.
               

              Theory of Flight

              $10, Level 1-4, (2003 Revised edition).
              Ever wondered what makes a plane fly? This kit gives a series of simple experiments based on the four forces of flight; lift, thrust, weight and drag.
               
              Science: Physical World, Science and its relationships to technology.

              Flight Kit Week

              $20, Level 1-4.
              A school-wide resource kit with activities to cover all curriculum areas and a list of contacts to make your Flight Week memorable. 

              The Magic School Bus Taking Flight

              $10, Level 1-2.
              Using the book in the series The Magic School Bus, look at what makes a plane fly. This kit gives a series of simple experiments based on lift and thrust.
               
              Science: Physical World, Science and its relationships to technology.

              Kites

              $10, Level 1-3.
              Kites are a fun and exciting topic for children of all ages. This kit offers a look at the history of kites through to the parts of a kite, how kites fly, and some simple kites to make. The kit continues with a technology component that lets the children design their own kite.
               
              Technology: Structures and Mechanisms, Science: Physical World.

              New Zealand Aircrew in World War Two

              $20, Level 3-5.
              Discover how people responded to World War Two, and look at significant changes to families through a series of actual documents, letters and photographs.
               
              Social Studies: Social Organisation, Time, Continuity and Change.

              Christmas at War

              $15, Level 1-5.
              A look at how 1940’s families and the RNZAF personnel spent their Christmas on the Home Front, in the Pacific, and in the POW Camps.
               
              Social Studies: Social Organisation, Time, Continuity and Change, Culture and Heritage, English: Written, Oral, Visual, The Arts: Music, Visual.

              Wartime Family

              $20, Level 2-5.
              This resource kit supports the Wartime Family exhibition at the Museum and looks in detail at family life on the New Zealand Home Front in the 1940’s. Topics of study include schooling, rationing, toys and games.
               
              Social Studies: Social organization, Time, Continuity and Change, Culture and Heritage, Technology, Arts, English.

              Search and Rescue: The RNZAF’s Civil Defence Role

              $15, Level 4.
              Look at Civil Defence through the RNZAF role, focusing on search and rescue.
               
              Social Studies: Social Organisation.

              World War II and the RNZAF

              $15, Level 5.
              Look at New Zealand’s involvement in World War II and specifically the RNZAF. While visiting the Museum, look at groups and individuals that have shaped the lives of others, and how these actions of others are viewed.
               
              Social Studies: Time, Continuity and Change.

              Recording History

              $15, Level 6.
               
              This resource provides examples of ways history is recorded and presented, giving a series of lessons for classes, groups or individuals to complete their own research on people in the past.

              Restoration Hangar/Corrosion

              $10, Level 3-5.
              Find out about the RNZAF and their role in restoring aeroplanes. Children will get to restore their own treasure, experiment with rust, and visit the Air Force Museum Restoration Hangar.
               
              Science: Planet Earth and Beyond, Physical World, Social Studies: Place and Environment, Time, Continuity and Change, Resources and Economic Activity.

              Reading the Weather

              $10, Level 2-4.
              After reviewing the Water Cycle, look at clouds and weather through a variety of hands-on activities to see common patterns and take part in activities showing how pilots read the weather for safe flying.
               
              Science: Planet Earth and Beyond, Relationship to Technology.

              Let the Heart Take Flight

              $5, Level 3-8.
              A series of 10 photographs showing romantic items that were made out of pieces of aircraft during the 1940’s. A great topic for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.
               
              Social Studies: Social Organisation, Time, Continuity and Change, Technology: Structures and Mechanisms, Information and Communication, Strand B.

              Living in Space

              $15, Level 1 -5.
              A school-wide Space Week resource kit with activities to cover food, clothing, health, housing, communication, and working in space. A NASA-designed resource kit on Living in Space is included.

              Kindergarten to Year 3 Resources

              $5 each
              These resource kits support the programmes taught at the Air Force Museum, covering the topics of aeroplanes and flight, the airport and water safety and include Be a Jet Pilot, Earn Your Pilot’s Wings, and Life Raft Adventure.
