              Programme 1 – Museum & Hangar Tours

Explore the amazing displays that offer insight into Air Force life during World Wars One & Two and to the present day.  Tour the Museum on your own or use the Museum Educators to provide information on specific topics during your tour of the Museum and Restoration Hangars.  Sample topics which can be covered during this visit are World War Two, the RNZAF, Women in War, and ANZAC Day.

Make the most of your Museum Visit by booking a tour of our Restoration & Storage Hangars.  A visit to the Storage Hangar not only provides viewing of 11 more aircraft but also allows students the opportunity to board an Andover aircraft and participate in a simulated parachute jump.  Or add the option of a Pacific Room Simulator Experience where students are ‘enlisted’ to the Royal New Zealand Air Force during WWII in the Pacific; a learning experience where students are exposed to a simulated bombing raid and life in the Pacific Islands during WWII.  Additional charges apply.

Allow at least 1 hour for the Museum visit, 30-60 minutes for a Restoration and/or Reserve Collection Tour, and 20 minutes for the Pacific Room Simulator Experience.

              Programme 5 – Exploring Flight

Through a series of activities, learn about the parts of an aircraft, how the control surfaces of an aircraft work, the four forces of flight, and what an aerofoil is. Make a kitset glider to take home, but not before using it to demonstrate new knowledge!  An informative lesson that can be tailored to suit students’ prior knowledge and levels of learning.

Also available is a 15 minute slideshow on the History of Flight that can be incorporated into this lesson (by request).

Programme 6 - Bombing Raid & Air Sea Rescue Simulation

Step back in time to 1943 and discover the Pacific during active WWII.  Learn about the jobs that Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel undertook, and the risks they faced, before experiencing a simulated bombing raid.  Then jump into a life raft and learn about the Air Force’s role in Search and Rescue.  A very interactive programme that will have students so engrossed that they won’t even realise they’re learning!
