‘Flying Furballs’ with Donovan Bixley

'Flying Furballs' with Donovan Bixley

free family event

2pm, Sunday 15 November

Come and meet award-winning author and illustrator Donovan Bixley, and hear all about his paw-some Flying Furballs series!

In conjunction with Upstart Press, we are delighted to be hosting bestselling children’s author-illustrator, Donovan Bixley, as he shares his international award-winning Flying Furballs series!

In what promises to be an entertaining and interactive session, Donovan will talk about the Flying Furballs characters, the cats that inspired them, and the hair-raising true stories from World War One, which feature in the books. Watch as he brings the stories to life through his live drawing and don’t miss your chance to meet Donovan and have him sign your books at the end of the session.

There will be plenty of copies of all nine Flying Furballs titles, as well as some of Donovan's other books for sale on the day.

Be in to win!

Download the Flying Furballs colouring sheet and bring it along on the day for your chance to win your own complete set of nine Flying Furballs books, signed by Donovan Bixley.

Donovan Bixley is one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed picture book creators with over 120 books published in 31 countries. His books have been twice selected for the International Youth Library’s White Raven award which annually lists the top 200 children’s books in the world.

His books are nothing if not varied, spanning high–brow to low–brow and every brow in between, from his award-winning illustrated biography Much Ado About Shakespeare, to the hilarious hijinks of pussycats in planes in Paris in his Flying Furballs series — winner of the Tatoulu Children’s Choice Award in France. Donovan has always loved vintage aeroplanes, and still runs outside when he hears one flying over his studio. Just the sight of an old biplane conjures visions of daring adventures to exotic places. Some of the funny things Donovan has illustrated include Shelob making Kentucky Fried Frodo, Mozart telling fart jokes, and a veloci-rapping dinosaur. Find out more about him on his website.
