The research collection consists of two archives. The paper archive comprises personal collections, manuscripts and ephemera, logbooks, journals, technical drawings and publications, maps and a research library of over 3,500 books. The photographic archive comprises some one million negatives belonging to the NZDF negative collection, prints, photographic albums, film and sound objects. The Museum provides a research service for members of the public wishing to obtain information about New Zealand military aviation from its beginnings to the modern-day RNZAF. However, the RNZAF’s official records are held by Archives New Zealand (www.archives.govt.nz) and personal service records are held by NZDF Archives (www.nzdf.mil.nz/personnel-records).
